Edward S. Blackburn, 92, of Moline, IL, and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015, at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. Services will be Friday, July 3rd, at 11:00 am, at First Covenant Church, 3303 – 41st Street, Moline, with a two-hour visitation from 9:00 am until time of the service. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to First Covenant Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Ed was born July 16, 1922, to Edward John and Ara (Reed) Blackburn. He married Jeannine Sandberg in 1949. He graduated with the Moline High School Class of 1942. Ed served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during WWII. In 1948, Ed graduated from Albion College in Michigan. He was an engineer at John Deere Harvester for 32 years, retiring in 1984. Ed was an active member, serving on various committees, at First Covenant Church and Covenant Children’s Home. He was a former Moline Alderman, and a Fire and Police Commissioner. He enjoyed tennis and traveling, and especially loved his family. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jeannine; sons, David (Janice) Blackburn of Boca Raton, FL, Gregory (Toni) Blackburn of Las Vegas, NV, and Jeffery Blackburn of Grayslake, IL; grandchildren, Kerri Kanter, Paige Blackburn, Chris Blackburn, Kurt Blackburn, John Blackburn, and Quinn Blackburn; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
