Edward H. “Ed” Meyer, 91, of Rock Island, IL, formerly of Moline, IL, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Silver Cross Health Center in Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22nd, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Wednesday, March 23rd, at 10:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1330 – 13th Street, Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, or to the Memorial Fund at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Ed, Jr. was born in Moline, on August 17, 1924, to Edward H. and Martha (Wagner) Meyer, Sr. He was married on April 23, 1949 to Gayle L. Cramer, who died January 17, 1986. On August 15, 1987, he married Janet S. Carlson, who survives. He graduated from Moline High School in 1942, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until February of 1946. He was a Motor Machinist 1st Class, serving during WWII aboard the minesweeper, U.S.S. Revenge, A.M. 110. It was the flagship minesweeper into Tokyo Bay at the end of the war, sweeping mines from the harbor so that the battleship U.S.S. Missouri could come in to sign the peace treaty. Ed retired from John Deere Plow & Planter Works in 1974, after thirty-two years of service as a tool and die maker. He with his first wife Gayle started Meyer’s Tree Farm in 1950, which on its 50th Anniversary became Meyer Landscape & Design. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline, and the Tri-City Cinema & Video Club. He greatly enjoyed taking care of his yard and garden, feeding the birds, fishing, making movies and videos, traveling (especially the mountain states), watching his horses race at the Quad-City Downs and county fairs, and visiting Las Vegas and Jumers Casino. In addition to his wife, Janet, survivors include: sons, Jack (Jan) Meyer of Nashville, TN, and Kurt (Jan) Meyer of Moline; step-daughter, Laura (Ed Bonnie) Carlson; step-sons, Justin (Linda) Carlson, Philip (Lisa) Carlson, and Joel Carlson; sister, Joyce Jacquin; grandchildren, John (Danielle) Meyer, Allie (Eric) Pratt, Julie (John) Super, Heather (Jason) Powell, Drew(Stephanie) Meyer, Evan Meyer, Robin Chin, Kelli Carlson, Riley Carlson, and Addie Carlson; and great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Helen, Vivian, Julie, Owen, Sophie, and Hawkes. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Gayle, and great-granddaughter, Giselle.
