Edith "Honey" Nelson, 87, of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, in Fremont, CA. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 4th, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Saturday, February 5th, at 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1330 - 13th Street, Moline. A luncheon will follow in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of America. Edith "Honey" Bates was born June 13, 1923, in Kewanee, IL, to Daniel and Eda "Edith" (Johnson) Bates. On Valentine's Day in 1942, she married Wilbur O. Nelson in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death in 1995. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Moline, and a former member of Faith Lutheran Church, also of Moline. She worked with her husband as a partner in Whitey's Ice Cream Parlour Restaurant. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, shopping, and most of all, she especially enjoyed the company of her dogs, Bunny and Little Bit. She is survived by her children, son James (Jo) Nelson of Fremont, CA, daughters Susan (Harrell) Lambert of Kuttawa, KY and Shellie (Dean) Lackey of Alton, IL, and son Kyle (Jill) Nelson of Moline. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, cousin Mary Sandberg of Kewanee, IL, many nieces and nephews, and special friends Glenn and Helen Cox of Milan, IL. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceeded in death by two brothers and a sister: Gene and Norm Bates and Helen Camey.
