Dwight Sills, 76, of East Moline, IL, died Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at his home. He was born November 20, 1929, to Denton and Jessie (Van Fleet) Sills in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. In the 1940's, Dwight received his pilot's license and enjoyed flying small airplanes. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1952. On August 1, 1954, he married Betty Mooney, who preceded him in death in 2005. Dwight was employed at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in the early 1950's, and in 1958, completed his Master's Degree in Sociology at the University of Kansas. He served as Executive Director of the Rock Island and Mercer County Mental Health Center from 1958 until 1972, which was relocated to Franciscan Hospital in Rock Island, IL. He continued his career in social work until his retirement in 1993. Dwight was a loving father and lifelong college football fan who could spend entire Saturdays watching one game after another. He is survived by a son, Patrick, daughter-in-law, Dana, and granddaughter, Margaret, of Eau Claire, WI; and daughter, Jane, and her partner, Cyndi Snow, of Wauwatosa, WI. Visitation will be held at the Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL, on Friday, November 17th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
