Dorothy Potter, 91, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Amber Ridge Memory Care Center in Moline. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 31st, at 11:00 a.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Moline. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice. Dorothy Grantz Styx Potter was born in Muscatine, IA, on December 18, 1917, to Matthew and Tressa (Townsend) VanTryfle. In 1925, she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Marcus Grantz. She graduated from Moline High School with the Class of 1935. In Chicago, IL, in 1940, she married Arthur E. Styx, who died on August 5, 1972, in Denver, while they were attending a convention. Then, in Washington, IL, on July 27, 1975, she married Dr. Jack A. Potter, OD, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1997. Dorothy was a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Moline. She enjoyed poetry, writing songs, and playing the ukulele, and loved traveling the world with her husband, Jack. Survivors include: a daughter: Christine (Lonnie) Griffin of Sherrard, IL; three sons: Dean (Lynn) Styx of Rock Island, IL, Jeffrey (Donna) Styx of Havelock, NC, and Marcus Styx of Taylor, SC; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a step-son, Dr. J. Allen Potter; a step-daughter Lynn A. Molleck; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a brother, and two infants.
