Dorothea Ann Duncan, 94, of Moline, IL, passed away peacefully Friday, January 21, 2022, at Unity Point Health, Rock Island, IL. A private graveside service will be held in April.
Dorothea Ann Duncan was born October 19, 1927, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Willis and Ethel Kuschmann. On July 21, 1951, she married Leland "Lee” Reid Duncan, who preceded her in death on May 18, 1993.
Dorothea graduated from Moline High School and then studied for four years at Iowa State University, from which she received her Bachelor of Science degree in education. She went on to teach at Coolidge Junior High and then continued her career at Moline High School in the Home Economics Department.
She was very active with the Kings Daughters organization, and was distinguished as their secretary for the State of Illinois. For many years, she volunteered at the organization’s thrift shop and loved to interact with the customers who enjoyed her attention to detail and her ability to make the store warm and inviting.
Dorothea also volunteered at Black Hawk College as a tutor in the E.S.L. classes, receiving the 2020 Volunteer Spotlight award for her outstanding service in literacy. She was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church in Moline
Her hobbies that she enjoyed included baking, sewing, quilting, working in the yard and knitting hats, mittens, and scarves for an Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
Survivors include her daughters: Diane (Jeff) Duncan-Goldsmith, Iowa City, IA, Sara (Steve) Pershing, Marion, IA, and Jill (Brad) Nacke, Mt. Holly, NC; sisters, Barbara Timberlake, Chicago, IL and Marlo Reide of Upland, CA; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leland, and a grandson, Matthew Pershing.
