Doris Leslie Chambers Peterson

June 13, 1906 — December 4, 2006

Doris Leslie Chambers Peterson, age 100, of Kingsley Place in San Antonio, TX, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2006, at St. Luke Baptist Hospital following a brief illness. She formerly lived in Sun City, AZ and Moline, IL. A memorial service will be held in Moline, IL in the spring of 2007 with Wendt Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Doris was born in Blandinsville, IL, the daughter of Frank and Florence Wilson Chambers. She graduated from Blandinsville High School and Western Teachers College in Macomb, IL. Doris married Carl W. Peterson on October 28, 1939 in Moline, IL. Mrs. Peterson was a long time teacher at Hoffman Elementary School in East Moline, IL, prior to her retirement. She took great pride in providing her students with the best learning abilities possible. Following retirement, Doris enjoyed traveling to several different countries, playing golf, bridge, bingo, and following the San Antonio Spurs. Many nights she could be found in front of the TV at 1:00 in the morning watching her beloved Spurs. She was a friend to all she met and loved by many people. She will be especially missed by her friends at Kingsley Place, and above all, her family. Surviving are two children, daughter Luan (Fred) Neal of San Antonio, TX; son Ron (Katie) Peterson of Dubuque, IA; six grandchildren, Rob (Kellie) Wendt of Round Rock, TX, Lisa Crowe of Phoenix, AZ, Rick (Jill) Peterson of Normal, IL, Kent Neal of Centralia, IL, Sheri (Steve) Hawker of Ft.Collins, CO, and Traces (Bill) Glenn of Herrin, IL; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Neal, Natalie, Caroline, William, and August Wendt, Logan, Nolan, and Hannah Crowe, Brittany and Garrett Peterson, Tyler and Courtney Hawker, and Taylor and Michaela Reel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Elton Chambers, a sister Thelma Daly, and a grandson Jon David Wendt. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU Unit at St. Lukes Baptist Hospital, for their loving care of Doris during this past week.
