Doris Black, 88, of Rock Island, IL, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Services will be Thursday, July 22nd, at 2:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Moline, or Heartland Hospice in Moline. Doris Peterson was born in Superior, WI, on October 12, 1921, to Ingvald and Anna (Christiansen) Peterson. After her mother's death, she was raised by her stepmother, Myrtle Peterson. On December 27, 1941, in Superior, WI, she married Tony Matalik, who passed away in 1975. In Moline, on November 13, 1977, she married William R. "Bill" Black, who preceded her in death on July 18, 2008. She was employed for 35 years at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1975 as a Procurement Clerk. She was a member of First Christian Church in Moline, and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed time spent at her lakeside cabin in Spooner, WI. Survivors include, a stepdaughter: Barbara (Dave) Dombrock, and a stepson: William (Carol) Black, all of Moline; a brother: Richard (Beverly) Sommers of Andalusia, IL; grandchildren: Jennie Black of Rock Island, Jason (Maria) Black of Moline, and Jeremy (Abbie) Dombrock of Iowa City, IA; and a great-granddaughter: Evelyn Dombrock of Iowa City. She was also loved by sisters-in-law: Elaine Peterson and Lenore Peterson, and by many nieces and nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by a grandson: Jacob Black; brothers: Sherman, Elmer, and Duane; and sisters: Irene, Margaret, Lois, and Verna.
