Donald M Mcpherson

Donald M. McPherson, 84, of Moline, IL. died Saturday, January 12, 2008, at his home. Donald M. McPherson was born on August 4, 1923, to Donald B. and Martha (Miles) McPherson in Chicago, IL. He married Marcelline J. Rial on July 3, 1954 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He served in the Army during WWII as a Combat Medic at Luzon, and was awarded the Purple Heart with One Oak Leaf Cluster and the Silver Star Medal. "Mac", as he was affectionately known, owned and operated Volkswagen East Moline for 23 years. He was a second generation auto dealer, as he grew up working at a Dodge Agency owned by his father in Clinton, IA. Mac was always known for his ethical business practices and his contributions to his community. Although he did not look for recognition, he was a pioneer in the auto retailing industry. His motto was "you are only as good as your word". He taught many employees how to operate a successful auto agency with many of them becoming auto dealers themselves. Mac had a dedicated work ethic that was highly respected among his peers. He retired in 1991, but continued to consult and coach his son in his career as an auto dealer. Mac was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline. He took part in the Senior Olympics, playing tennis and swimming. He also enjoyed playing golf with his wife, and watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 16th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be held Thursday, January 17th, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. Survivors include: his wife; two daughters: Martha Radosevich, and Jenny (David) Anthony, both of Moline; two sons: D.J. (Denise) McPherson, and Scott (Debbie) McPherson, both of Moline; a sister: Margaret Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren: Andrew, Elizabeth, Hannah, Miles, Michael, Kellene, Caroline, Jimmy, Molly, Ian, Marcie, Amanda, and Clayton; and great-grandchildren: Madison and Mya.
