Donald E. Smith, 70, of Moline, IL, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2010, at Trinity Medical Center West in Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, January 28th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, where a Christian Wake Service will be offered at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 29th, at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in East Moline, with Military Honors accorded by American Legion Post #246.. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the St. Mary's Food Pantry. Donald Eugene Smith was born in Hendricks, MN, on November 16, 1939, to Arnold and Bernice (Simmons) Smith. On November 17, 1973, in Wilmington, IL, he married Tamara Reddy, who survives. Don graduated from White, SD, High School, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1960. He was a graduate of South Dakota State University. He was an inventory manager for the Department of the Army, retiring in 1996 with thirty-three years of service. In addition to his wife, Tamara, survivors include, his mother: Bernice Smith of White, SD; daughters: Christine Smith of Tulsa, OK, Angie (Mike) Baehr of Quincy, IL; sons: Bart Smith of Tulsa, OK, and David Smith of Moline; grandson: Andrew Baehr of Quincy, IL; sister: Kaye (Bill) Schuster of Webster, SD; brothers: Doug (Betty) Smith of Lincoln, NE, and Curt (Trudy) Smith of Summerville, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
