Donald Edward Allen

Donald E. Allen, 89, of Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. Services will be held Wednesday, September 13th, at 11:00 a.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a two-hour visitation prior to the services starting at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estates in Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Donald Edward Allen was born in Rock Island, IL, on May 19, 1928, to Harry Knowl and Genevera (Taylor) Allen. On August 4, 1946, in Moline, he married Marilyn Joyce Crosby. Don worked in construction for many years, retiring in 1990. He was a 65-year member of First Christian Church in Moline, serving as an Elder, a Youth Leader, an usher, and a voice in the choir. He was a member of Doric Lodge 319 AF&AM, and was Worshipful Master in the early 1970’s. Don and Marilyn enjoyed spending winters in Zephyrhills, FL, for many years. Survivors include Marilyn, his wife of seventy-one years; children, Nancy (Michael) Bratton of Sun City, AZ, Gary (Debby) Allen of Castle Rock, CO, Marjorie (Dennis) Schaefer of Moline, and Penny (John) Maltby of Rock Island; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Allen of Moline; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Allen of Broken Arrow, OK; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Allen; and a brother, Marvin Allen.
