Digna Simpao, 71, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2022, at her home, with her family by her side.
Digna's funeral service will be Friday, June 24, 11:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, IL. Before Friday's service, a visitation will be held at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, from 9-10:30 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Digna Candelaria Simpao was born on June 14, 1951 in Cabanatuan City,
Philippines. She is the fourth child of Estolano and Aurora Candelaria.
At the tender age of six, she moved to the big city of Manila for schooling
until graduating with a Bachelors in Economics from the Philippine College
of Commerce.
She started working at Phil Rock in the Personnel Department. After that, she started working for 3M Philippines in the Personnel Department and worked there for many years. She was promoted as a Secretary to the Plant Manager and worked as a Marketing Analyst. While working at 3M Philippines, in 1971, she met her future husband, Daniel M. Simpao. They were married on January 3, 1977, and had two children, Dennix and Marvi.
She was also an entrepreneur, owning and operating her own drugstores, which she named MAR-DEX, affectionately named after her children. At one point, she was President of the Quezon City Chapter of the Drugstore Owners Association of the Philippines.
In 2005, Digna relocated from the Philippines to her new home in the The United States. Digna was a member of the Fil-Am Association of the Quad Cities and was also a former Vice President. She had many hobbies and
passions. She loved life's finer things: traveling, music, dancing, playing Mahjong, shopping with friends, and even making jewelry. But her two favorite passions she loved to combine cooking and spending time with
loved ones. No meal was complete without second servings, and no table was ever too full to hold more family. She loved to laugh, had a warm smile, and loved all eight of her grandchildren with all her heart. She made sure
that she was present during each of her grandchildren's birth here in Illinois and the Caribbean. She also finds particular pleasure and happiness in watching their accomplishments on videos and in person.
On June 20, 2022, Digna lost a long, hard-fought battle with cancer and will be missed beyond measure by her husband, children, friends, and family. She is gone from this world but will live on through the thoughts
and memories of all who loved her.
May her soul rest softly in Eternal Peace.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on her Memory Page.
