Dean G. Van Wie

Reverend Dean Van Wie passed away on May 14th, 2022, after a brief illness. He was 84 years old. Rev. Dean retired in April 2014 as minister of Unity Church of the Quad Cities in Moline, where he served since October 1999. Before that, he had been a civil engineer working at various locations, mainly in Central Illinois. His last engineering position was at the Department of Public Works in Urbana, Illinois, where he had served 14 years.


Rev. Dean was born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and a 1955 graduate of Kenosha High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and served until 1960. After separation from the military, he enrolled in the University of Wisconsin in Madison and graduated in January 1965 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.


Rev. Dean married Sandra V. Bird in 1966 in Springfield, IL. Survivors include two children, Gregory Van Wie, residing in Iowa, and Lisa Steerman, of California. He had three grandchildren, James Van Wie, Marcus Van Wie, Samantha Steerman, and four great-grandchildren.


Rev. Dean divorced from Sandra in 1978, then in 1986, married Edie Feiste. That marriage lasted 12 years. He had two step-children from the second marriage, Dale and Darlene Feiste.


Rev. Dean enjoyed spending time with his family, tennis, bicycle riding, and kayaking.


In retirement, Rev. Dean had filled in for Unity churches without ministers or when their ministers took a vacation. He also wrote two books that expressed his views of the Unity teachings, "The ABC's of Non-Violence" and "The ABC's of Spiritual Healing".


No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at the nearest Unity Church.
