Obituary of David J. “Gus” Gustafson David J. “Gus” Gustafson, 69, of Colona, IL, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, in Loyola University Hospitals in Chicago, IL. Visitation will be Sunday, July 13th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Services will be Monday, July 14th, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL, with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the family. David Jay Gustafson was born in Moline on August 10, 1944, to Walter K. Gustafson and Laura “Bette” Reuter. He attended Moline schools, and served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1961 until 1965. He was employed for a time, by East Moline Metal Products, and by Springfield Armory. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 3-D Shoots, and loved spending time with his family. Survivors include: daughters: Amy (Brad) Beeding of East Moline, IL, and Laura (John) Belville of Coal Valley, IL; sons: David (Kumok) Gustafson II of Geneseo, IL, Danny (Kristine) Gustafson of Charleston, SC, Eric (Lisyl) Gustafson of Aledo, IL, and Erin Patrick (Cathy) Gustafson of Clarksville, TN; eighteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. And he leaves behind his beloved dogs, “Jazz” and “Bell”. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jaime, and his first wife Mary.
