David Albert Fontenoy, 75, of Coal Valley, died Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at home surrounded by family and friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at New Hope Baptist Church in Coal Valley, IL.
David was born December 13, 1947, to August and Clarica (Dilts) Fontenoy. He married Betty Bullock on August 13, 1977, and they were married for 46 years.
David served in the U.S. Army and in the Vietnam War for 18 months. He worked for John Deere Harvester for 30 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and riding horses with his daughter. In his retired years he helped care for his grandkids, Taylor and Justin, and attended many events and ball games. He was also a hell of a softball coach for the Orion Softball League for ten years, and coached his sons in wrestling matches.
Those left to cherish his memory are Wife Betty, Coal Valley; Daughter Tina (Jason) Guthrie, Viola; Sons Rich (Jody) Fontenoy, Geneseo, and James and Mark; grandkids Taylor Guthrie, Viola, Justin Guthrie, Viola, Reid Fontenoy, Geneseo, and Hunter Fontenoy; Bonus Daughter Trish Owens, Rock Island (Kaylee, Emily, & Isaiah); Brother Ron (Barb) Fontenoy; Sisters Linda (Mark) Hintermeister and Pat Withers, East Moline; Beloved nephew Edward (Bethany) Fontenoy and his beloved dogs Fred & Barny.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; three brothers: Richard, Al, and Randy; sister, Sandy; nephew, Josh Fontenoy and a very special horse, Patch.
