Darrell Hunwardsen

Darrell Hunwardsen, 87, of Coal Valley passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2021 at his home.

Darrell was born on March 31, 1934 in Wheatland, IA, to Martin T. Hunwardsen and Iva Schneider Racster. He married the love of his life, Arlene Baker on July 10, 1954.

He was employed as a carpenter in the maintenance department by the Moline Coal Valley School District for 37 years, and then transitioned to mowing grass for 18 years during the summer, retiring in 1996. Darrell was a master carpenter and a "jack of all trades". He was also a Freemason. He loved buying and working on old trucks, making things for his family as well as traveling. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Arlene along with children: Daughters, Karen (Ron) Delp, Coal Valley, IL, Julie Ethridge, Rock Island, IL, a son, Thomas (Darla) Hunwardsen, Black Hawk, SD; grandchildren, Chris Ethridge, Jayson Ethridge, Jay Delp, Jodee Potter, Joel Delp, Peggy Hunwardsen, Jennifer Hunwardsen; sixteen great-grandchildren and a sister, Sue Miller, DuQuoin, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Carol Eicksteadt and Janet Fenton, as well as a brother, William Hunwardsen.

The funeral service will take place at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, IL, Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 6 pm, with the visitation from 4 pm - 6pm.
