Darrell Melton, 68, of Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, IA, after a yearlong battle with extended small cell lung cancer. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 14th, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Thursday, July 15th, at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Moline. The family will host a luncheon after burial services at the Milan American Legion. Memorials may be made to the family. Darrell Arvin Melton was born in West Port, IN, on August 31, 1941, to Otha and Robbie (Anderson) Melton. His family later moved to the Quad Cities. He married Joyce McCarroll in 1961. Later, on October 24, 1981, in Rock Island, IL, he married Mary Ann Gray, who survives. He was hired at International Harvester in 1966, and worked in several departments. He finally retired from the paint line in Department 50, hanging parts, in 2002, after 36 years. Mr Melton was an animal lover. He passed his time fishing, hunting, playing cards, and growing a garden with his brother. He was a proud parent and a loving grandfather. In addition to his wife, Mary Ann, survivors include his children: Rick Melton of Moline, Michelle L Melton of Moline, Lisa M Melton of Wilton, IA, Genny L Wallace of Maquoketa, IA, and Jeffery J Dennison of Milan, IL; two brothers: Jay (Pat) Melton and Roy (Judy) Melton, all of Moline; fourteen grandchildren; and special friends: Todd & Chase Harmening of Matherville, IL, John Johnson of Colona, IL, and Jerry Driver of Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Ann Viager, Annabelle Gragg, and Niomi Roberta Melton; a brother: Ramon "Jr" Melton; a nephew: Ramon J Melton II, and a niece: Holly Viager. The Melton family would like to thank Dr. Constantinou, Heather, and the rest of his staff, for the wonderful help and support they have given us during the toughest battle of our lives. Also a special thank needs to go to the staff at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, for easing Darrell's transition, as well as his loved ones. We would also like to thank Jennifer (Gray) Lewis for your selflessness, commitment, TLC, and dependability, with doing everything that you have done for Darrell. You are a blessing.
