Darlene Aukee, age 64, of East Moline, IL, died Sunday, November 10, 2013, at her home, with her loving family by her side. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 12th, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Wednesday, November 13th, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1450 - 30th Avenue, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Silvis, IL. Darlene Stegenga was born in Moline on August 19, 1949, to Frank and Eleanor (Keyl) Stegenga. On August 6, 1977, in East Moline, she married Perry Aukee. She graduated from Concordia University in River Forest, IL, with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. She retired as an elementary school teacher at Ridgewood School in East Moline. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a woman with a deep faith in God. She touched many lives in her quiet and loving ways. She was a loving wife and devoted mother. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends. The family would like to express appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Genesis Hospice, Bettendorf, for the wonderful and compassionate care they showed to Darlene in her last days, and to our family and friends for their thoughts and prayers. We also want to especially give thanks to Pastor Kent Umbarger, Pastor Renee Holm, and Pastor Van Flowers, for their spiritual support and prayers. In addition to her husband, Perry, of East Moline, survivors include: daughter, Lisa (Keith) Wells of Johnston, IA; sons, Nathan (Sara) Aukee, and John-Mark Aukee, all of East Moline; brother, David Stegenga of Bettendorf, IA; sister-in-law, Lillian Aukee of Sarasota, FL; brothers-in-law, George Aukee of Moline, and Reuben Aukee of Venice, FL; and five grandchildren.
