Darla M. Husson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on June 25, 2024, in East Moline, IL. Born on April 7, 1938, in Ottawa, KS, she was the cherished daughter of Lester and Dorothy (Hazen) Keltz. Darla's warmth, love, and joyful spirit touched all who knew her.
In 1955, Darla graduated from Moline High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships and developed an interest in community service. On October 18, 1957, she married the love of her life, Richard Husson, and together they built a family grounded in love and mutual respect. Their partnership was a testament to devotion, and it flourished through the years as they welcomed four wonderful children into the world: Susan Husson (Wes Watson) of Richmond, KY; Sandra (Vern) Dunham of Moline, IL; David (Christine) Husson of Wellington, FL; and Robert (Megan) Husson of Colona, IL.
Darla was a dedicated worker employed at ACALA - Armament and Chemical Acquisition and Logistics Activity on the Rock Island Arsenal. Her contributions to the organization were significant, and her commitment to her work was paralleled only by her dedication to her community. Even after her retirement in 1995, she continued to give back, volunteering at UnityPoint Hospital in Rock Island, IL. Her selflessness and care for others were a testament to her character and will be remembered by all who knew her.
Darla's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Moline, and following its closure, she found spiritual solace and fellowship at Edgewood Baptist Church. Her faith guided her through life's challenges and inspired her to live with grace and gratitude each day.
Among her many passions, Darla's love for travel, quilting, and cooking stood out. Her quilts were not just blankets but vibrant tapestries of love, each stitch a testament to her patience and artistry. Her culinary skills were a source of joy and anticipation at family gatherings, where her dishes were always met with delight. These hobbies were not just pastimes but expressions of her creativity and love for her family.
Services will be at noon on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a visitation from 10 AM to 12 PM before the service. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery on the Arsenal.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Above all, Darla will be remembered for her loving nature. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and she was always there to offer a word of encouragement or a helping hand. She was the heart of her family, providing unwavering support and creating a legacy of love that will continue to flourish through her grandchildren: Cassandra, Xavier, Alazhay, and Scarlett.
Darla M. Husson lived a full and vibrant life, marked by her love for her family, her dedication to her community, and her unwavering faith.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Hope Creek Nursing Home and UnityPoint Hospice especially.
