Daniel was born November 9, 1927, in Stanford, KY, on November 9, 1927, to William S. and Ella (Boyd) McKinney. On January 24, 1953, in Hamlet, IL, he married Donna Meier, who survives. He served for thirteen months in the U.S. Army in Korea, as a switchboard operator. He was employed at Alcoa Aluminum in Bettendorf, IA for thirty-seven years, retiring in the mid-80’s. Dan was the ultimate Moline High School sports fan, even going so far as to build his house across the street from Wharton Field House in order to more easily attend all the games and practices. He enjoyed music and dancing, and wrote lyrics for songs, even having musicians add melodies to several of his lyrics. In addition to his wife, Donna, survivors include a son, Terry (Paula) McKinney of East Moline, IL; a daughter, Debbie (Keith) Tallman of Anamosa, IL; grandchildren, Joseph McKinney, Jacob (Chelsea) Neff, Abigail (Jordon) Scriver, and Ellie Tallman; a great-grandson, Nolan Scriver; a sister-in-law, Helen McKinney, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
