Clare B Best

Clare B. Best, 90, of Moline, IL, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center in Moline. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 4:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. There will be a one hour visitation from 3:00 p.m. until time of the service. Clare and his late wife, Mary Ann, will be buried in the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL, at a later date. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Animal Care and Control, or to the American Cancer Society. Clare Bernard Best was born in Clinton, IL, on August 24, 1920, to Arvin and Mae (Quimby) Best. On January 30, 1960, in Galesburg, IL, he married Mary Ann Miles, who preceded him in death December 3, 2005. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII, and retired in 1984, after many years as a Sales Representative for Salerno Cookies in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, and he loved the Cubs. Survivors include, children: Todd (Darci) Best of Colorado Springs, CO, Ronald Best of Fredricks, MD, Mike (Katrina) Best of Papillion, NE, Pat (Eileen) Best of St. Petersburg, FL, Steve (Fran) Hamm of Moline, Kathy (Tom) Lowe of Mt. Prospect, IL, and Dawn Christine McDermott of Wilmette, IL; a sister: Beverly Sanders of Omaha, NE; seventeen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a daughter-in-law: Penny Best.
