Chris Klockau, a distinguished lawyer and beloved family man, passed away on March 31, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on February 9, 1947, in Champaign, Illinois, and graduated from Rock Island High School before continuing his education at the University of Illinois and Valparaiso Law School.
In 1973, Chris embarked on a successful legal career that spanned over three decades, passionately advocating for his clients until his retirement. His commitment to his profession, keen intelligence, and unwavering dedication endeared him to colleagues and clients alike.
Chris’s sense of humor and abundant energy made him a joy to be around. An avid outdoorsman, he spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and boating. He also had a deep love for music, playing guitar and bass in his band, The Royal Rockers. Affectionately known as the “rock and roll lawyer,” he wore this nickname as a source of pride throughout his life.
Chris is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Karen Klockau (DeWulf), and their three children: Kurt (Tami) Klockau, Peter (Katie) Klockau, and Rachel (Tim) Baraks. He was a proud grandfather to Ava, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Johnston; two brothers; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; their spouses; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruby.
The memories created with Chris are countless, each a testament to the laughter and happiness he brought to everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on May 2, 2025, from 4-7 pm at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, IL. In place of flowers, memorials may be made to the QCCA, 2621 4th Avenue, Rock Island, IL.
