Charles W. Welty, 82, of Colona, IL. died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus in Silvis, IL. Charles William Welty was born on October 11, 1925, to Lester and Helen (Graham) Welty in Clinton, IA. He married Marian Hansen on October 29, 1949 in Moline, IL. He graduated from DeVry Institute of Electronics in Chicago, IL. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army in India and on the Ledo Burma Road in China. For over 25 years, Charles owned Welty Electronics TV Sales & Service in Moline. He was known as "Mr. Wizard". Charles was an avid HO-Gauge Model Railroad hobbiest and railroad historian. He also loved woodworking, and had a fine appreciation for music. He and his wife were members of the Antique Car Club of America. Services will be Friday, February 15th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Visitation will be held Friday from 12:00 noon until time of the service at 1:00. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, with Military Rites accorded by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline. In addition to his wife, Marian, he is survived by: two daughters: Roxanne (Dean) Croegaert of Milan, IL; and Anne Hudson of Cedar Falls, IA; a son: Thomas (Nancy) Welty of Big Lake, MN; a brother: James Welty of Portland, OR; and four grandchildren: Brian Croegaert, and Joseph, Kathy, and Lauren Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.
