Charles J Smith

Charles J. Smith, 89, of Moline, IL, died Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Trinity Medical Center West in Rock Island, IL. Charles J. Smith was born on April 9, 1918, to Charles and Marie (Haney) Smith Moline. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II. He married Carol Nelson in 1949, and she preceded him in death. He had three different law offices in the Illinois side of the Quad-Cities, prior to becoming Moline City Attorney, and then an Illinois Circuit Court Judge for over 20 years. Charles was a member of the National Rifle Association, and served on many different conservation boards. He was a hunter and a fisherman, and really enjoyed his dogs. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 31st, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Sevices will be held Friday, February 1st, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to the National Rifle Association. Survivors include: two sons: Douglas (Gloria) Smith of Colona, IL, and Charles J. Smith III of Carbon Cliff, IL; and a grandson, Craig J. Smith of Carbon Cliff, IL.
