The Reverend Charles H. Willey, 91, of Fort Myers, FL, and formerly of Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A visitation will be Sunday, March 25th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, March 26th, at 11:00 a.m., at First Christian Church, 1826 - 16th Street, Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church. Charles H. Willey was born in Fairfield, IA, on November 30, 1920, to Fey H. and Leona (Huston) Willey. He was a graduate of Blandensville High School in Illinois, and Eureka College. An elopement on November 9, 1940, in Bowling Green, MO, began the 71-year marriage of Charles Willey and Betty Riley. From 1944 to 1953, he was pastor of Coldbrook Christian Church in Cameron, IL, and was pastor of First Christian Church in Moline, from 1953 until 1971. He worked with Motivational Public Speakers, and Speakers Associates, and helped so many people with his advice and concern. Over the years he received many honors awards, was a 33rd Degree Mason, Eureka College Alumnus of the Year, and, for 37 years, was Chaplain of the Moline Fire Department. He enjoyed the outdoors and motorcycles, and especially loved people. In addition to his wife, Betty, survivors include: a daughter, Peggy Willey (Jack) Clendenin of Fort Myers, FL; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Willey of Fort Myers; and grandchildren: Scott Laud of Moline, Lora Wilson of Singapore, and Melissa Bishop of Omaha, NE; and seven great-grandchildren.
