Carol J Carlson

Carol J. Carlson, 93, of Moline, IL, died Saturday, August 18, 2018, at UnityPoint Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 22 nd , from 4 to 6, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline.  Services will be Thursday, August 23 rd , at 11:00 a.m., at First Lutheran Church, 1230 – 5 th Avenue, Moline.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Moline. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Moline, IL. Carol Josephine Swanson was born in Moline on April 15, 1925, to S. Alfred and Pearl (Grant) Swanson.  On April 29, 1944, at Camp Blanding, FL, she married John M. Carlson, also of Moline, who preceded her in death December 9, 1996. Carol graduated with the Moline High School Class of 1943, at which time she was given the Sons of the American Revolution Award.   She served on the class reunion committee many times.  She was an executive secretary at Eagle Signal, and then, until her retirement, at Montgomery Elevator Company, both in Moline.  She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, Moline, where she sang in the choir for more than 70 years and served on the property and social ministry committees, organizing funeral luncheons for 26 years.  She was a member of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – Ruth Circle, the Rock Island County Historical Society and Auxiliary, the Trinity Medical Center Auxiliary, the Trinity Health Foundation, and the Augustana College Foundation.  In 2010, Carol was awarded the Augustana College Honorary Alumna Award. Carol loved baking and traveling to 33 countries, and enjoyed her years of volunteering, which included more than 45 years at Trinity Medical Center and its two predecessors. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
