Carl E Peterson

Carl E. Peterson, 86, of Moline, IL, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Services will be Monday, April 23rd, at 2:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #246. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church in Moline. Carl E Peterson was born in Moline on March 8, 1926, to Carl E. and Mable (Johnson) Peterson. On April 18, 1948, in Moline, he married Shirley Wells, who preceded him in death in on November 8, 1990. He graduated with the Moline High School Class of 1944, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for International Harvester Company-Farmall Works in Rock Island, for 34 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, and American Legion Post #246. He enjoyed woodworking, and especially loved his grandchildren. Survivors include: daughter, Jill (Steve) Grubaugh of Moline; son, Bruce Peterson of Marietta, OH; sister-in-law, Roberta Peterson of Moline; five grandchildren: Danielle and Breanne Grubaugh, and Sarah (Dave) Fulkerson, Craig (Karen) Peterson, and Scott Peterson; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Parrish, a brother, LaVerne Peterson, and in 2010, a son, Charles A. Peterson.
