Carl E Beckman

NOTE:  On Saturday, January 26, 2019, there will be a memorial service for Carl at 1:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a two-hour visitation prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m.  The Reverend John Beckman will be officiating.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in Rose Lawn Memorial Estates in Moline. Carl E. Beckman, 90, of Moline, IL, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at HCR ManorCare in Moline. Per his wishes, cremation rights will be accorded; all arrangements are being managed by Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children. Carl was born in Chicago, IL on March 5, 1928, the son of Gunnar and Frieda (Pierson) Beckman. On December 31, 1988, he married Marilyn Weaver of Davenport, IA, who survives. Carl graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. He began selling life insurance after college and enjoyed a long and satisfying career, finally “retiring” last year at age 89. He was a member of the Elks, as well as the Moline Rotary, where he had the distinguished honor of being part of the “naughty table” where laughter and jokes were the norm. Carl loved the game of golf and was a longtime volunteer at the Quad City Open. He loved the Green Bay Packers and college football, and took great pride in being part of the Chain Gang with Augustana through their championship years. Carl was dearly loved and will be forever missed by his wife of almost 30 years, Marilyn; his children Sara (Ron) Piethe and John Beckman, all of San Jose, CA; grandchildren Brian Piethe, Mark Piethe, Kristie Keith, Benjamin Beckman, Joshua Beckman, and Rachel Beckman; and great-grandchildren Sam, Luke, and Willow Piethe. Besides family, Carl leaves behind many good friends and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jim Beckman, and his brother Bill Beckman.
