Bruce Bromley, 92, of East Moline, IL, passed away Friday, November 4, 2016, at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities in Bettendorf, IA. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline on Wednesday, November 9th at 11:00 a.m., with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Inurnment will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to Honor Flights of the Quad Cities, and Toys for Tots. Bruce Bromley was born in Chicago, IL, on February 22, 1924, to Arthur and Ona Bromley. He graduated from Austin High School and George Williams College. He married Thelma Nicewarner in 1949, and later married Betty Sovey in 1973. Bruce worked at many YMCA’s, including La Porte, Hyde Park and Rockford. He retired as the Executive Director of the Moline Y. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline. He treasured spending time with his family and special friend, Linda Gerwulf. He loved traveling with Linda Johnson from the bank and the gang, with whom he formed close friendships. Bruce was the recipient of five Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross while serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was proud to serve his country and thoroughly enjoyed participating in an Honor Flight in 2010. He received the YMCA Physical Director of the Year award, served as President of the Chicago YMCA Physical Directors and of the Illinois Physical Directors. He was a recipient of the National YMCA Administration Board. He served as President of the Board of the Spring Creek Congregational Church in Rockford and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of First Congregational Church in Moline. Bruce is survived by his children and their spouses: Bruce (Brenda) Bromley, Dr. Dawn Bromley, Kim (Mark) Morgan, and Dale Bromley, as well as stepchildren: Ronald (Colleen) Sovey, Rita (Jon) Melin, and Randal (Karen) Sovey; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, and two stepsons, Richard and Roger.
