Betty M Nelson

Betty M. Nelson, 78, of Moline, IL, formerly of Tampa, FL, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be a graveside committal service at Evergreen Cemetery in Kewanee, IL, on Thursday, July 30th, at 1:00 p.m.. The Rev. Glen R. Jewell, nephew, of the Thorntown, IN, Christian Church, will be officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home of Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation of Iowa. Betty M. Nelson was born in Kewanee on December 8, 1930, to James and Annie (Jackson) Nelson. She graduated with the Kewanee High School Class of 1948, and, in 1952, graduated from the Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing. She lived in Chicago from 1950 until 1980, when she moved to Florida. She was a nurse at the University of South Florida until her retirement in 1995. Betty was a member of the Nurses Association, and the Episcopal Church. Survivors include: two sisters: Margaret McRae and Mary Nelson, both of Moline; a sister-in-law: Betty Jean Nelson of Bradford, IL; and several nieces and nephews, including Richard Jewell of Moline, and Sandra Spielman of Erie, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Edith Johnson, and three brothers: James, Glen, and William Nelson.
