Bernice S Briggs

Bernice Briggs, 96, formerly of Moline, IL, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at Desert Harmony House in Chandler, AZ. Services will be Saturday, December 11th, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4107 - 21st Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be Saturday, at the church, from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in DeWitt, IA. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, IL. Bernice S. Schmidt was born in Delmar, IA, on August 19, 1914, to Gustave and Lena (Mecklenburg) Schmidt. On August 27, 1939, in DeWitt, IA, she married Edwin C. Briggs, who preceded her in death on April 9, 2004. She graduated from DeWitt High School, and attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Moline. Her family and church were the center of her life. Survivors include: three daughters: Margo (Douglas) Crabb of Lakewood, CO, Laura Lee (Garrie) Michael of Gilbert, AZ, and Paula (Philip) Zumaris of Port Byron, IL; six grandchildren, a stepgrandson, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, and a sister.
