Bernice M. Amundsen, 92, of Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 20th, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 21st, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline.. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island. Bernice M. Caponigri was born in Chicago, IL, on October 6, 1919, to Albert and Anne (Ruckstuhl) Caponigri. She married Kenneth M. Amundsen on November 20, 1943. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1990. She graduated from Austin High School in Chicago, and the Chicago School of Business. She was a homemaker, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline. She was active in the 21st Century Women's Club, Rock Island Women's Club, and the Moline Women's Club. She was also a member of the Mississippi Valley Region Antique Automobile Club, and was, for many years, the club Sunshine Lady. She loved music, dancing, working with children, and being with her family and friends. Survivors include: daughters: Kathy Meersman of Flat Rock, NC, Marilyn Collins of Naperville, IL, and Karla Smiley of Littleton, CO; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and her favorite "granddog", Penny. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children's Therapy Center of the Quad-Cities, 1504 - 13th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265, which provides physical, occupational, speech, and feeding therapy for young children.
