Joe Ruberg, 79, died June 20, 2009, at his home in Daytona, FL, with his family by his side. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. There will be a private family commital service at the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Friends of Joe will be gathering in his honor from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7th, at the The Riverhouse in downtown Moline. Memorials may be made to the Moline Blue Marlins Swim Club c/o Porter McNeil, President, 4410 Fifth Avenue Moline, IL 61265 www.molinebluemarlins.com Bernard Joseph Ruberg II was born November 11, 1929 in East Moline, IL, to Bernard and Fern Ruberg. He married Elaine Sperry, who survives. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 until 1952. He graduated from United Township High School in East Moline, and, in 1961, from Western Illinois University. He taught in the Moline School System for 25 years, and was a swimming coach. He founded and coached the Blue Marlin Swim Team, as well as the Moline High School Swimming Team. In addition to coaching, he enjoyed golf and tennis. In addition to his wife, Elaine, survivors are sons: Tim Ruberg of Peachtree City, FL, Scot Ruberg of Osprey, FL, and Jay Ruberg of Daytona Beach, FL, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: James Ruberg.
