Annell Hoff, 86, of Moline, IL, died Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Rosewood Care Center in Moline. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 2201 Seventh Avenue, in Moline. Memorials may be made to First Congregation Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Annell B. Ellis was born in Canton, MO, on November 27, 1922, to J. Russell and Gladys (Schlager) Ellis. On July 18, 1945, in Canton Mo, she married Paul Hoff, who survives. Annell graduated from Canton High School and Culver-Stockton College in Canton. She taught briefly at several high schools, and at Moline Community College, before coming to Moline's Logan and Washington Elementary Schools. She was a teacher for 27 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of First Congregational Church, and taught Sunday School for many years. She had been legislative chairperson for the Blackhawk Retired Teachers' Association, life member of the National Education Association, member of Chi Omega Sorority, A.A.U.W., N.O.W., and A.C.L.U. She was a volunteer driver for cancer patients and had been an escort for patients at the former Moline Public and Lutheran hospitals. Annell loved her family, was an avid reader, and enjoyed lively discussions on current events. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her son: Curtis (Tawnya) Hoff of East Moline; three grandchildren: Melissa (Anthony) Hardesty, Christina Kistler, and Ashley Hoff; and two great-grandchildren: Danielle and Joseph Hardesty. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother: J. Russell Ellis, Jr.
