Amos Savage, 97 of Rock Island, IL, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL. Services will be Friday, February 1st, at 6:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL, with a two-hour visitation from 4:00 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Joliet, IL, at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 2nd. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Moline, IL. Amos Lehle Savage was born in Joliet, IL on November 16, 1915, to John and Amelia (Lehle) Savage. On June 15, 1940, in Joliet, he married Anna Elizabeth "Betty" Doxsee, who preceded him in death in 1994. He attended Joliet Junior College, where he set the Illinois Junior College record for basketball scoring in 1936. He graduated from Northwestern University Business School in 1938. He was a C.P.A. Some years ago, he entered the Value Line Contest, and out of thousands of entrants worldwide, he won second place. He retired in 1983, as a CPA & Controller for Deere & Company in Moline. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline, was a fine golfer, and since 1923, was a faithful and hopeful Cubs fan. Survivors include: daughter, Susan Savage of Rock Island, IL; son, Dr. James (Mary) Savage of Germantown, TN; and grandchildren: Emily and Elena Savage, Anne Catherine Podolsky, and Abigail Haynes. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dr. John Savage, and a half-sister, Ruth Marie Plaut.
