Allen F Bentler

April 10, 1935 — January 30, 2012

Allen F. Bentler, 76, of Moline, IL, entered into eternal life on Monday, January 30, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL, following a brief illness. He will now live in eternity with Joyce, his wife of 52 years, who passed before him on November 25, 2011. Cremation rites were accorded. A Memorial Visitation for both Allen and Joyce, will be held on Saturday, February 4th, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Memorials may be made to the family or a charity of the donor's choice. Allen F. Bentler was born in Davenport, IA, on April 10, 1935, to Al and Della (Moeller) Bentler. On August 15, 1957, in East Moline, IL, he married Joyce Ellen Waller, who preceded him. He attended St. Paul The Apostle Church and School, and the Davenport schools. As a young man, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid rollerskater, working at both the Prom and the Trio, where he met Joyce. They skated together for many years. He later worked for J.I. Case Company, retiring after thirty years. Earlier in life, he was a pigeon enthusiast, starting at age nine when he received his first bird from his life-long friend, Tom. Allen showed pigeons for a number of years. He then became interested in antique gas engines, was a member of the Atkinson Engine Club, the Edwards River Engine Club, and traveled every fall to different shows. Allen and Joyce enjoyed many car rides, especially after he survived lung cancer twice, and a stroke in 2008. His last ride was only months ago; they went to the casino that was their usual Friday treat. Survivors include: daughter: Deborah Smith of Coal Valley, IL; grandchildren: Ashley Smith and Brandon Smith; special cousins: Dorothy Kingsbury and family, and Elgene and Bob West; and many good friends he made over the years. In addition to his wife, Joyce, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a son-in-law. The family would like to thank Dr. Wallner again for the care throughout the years, and Dr. Pat Cunningham.
