Alice V. Griffiths, 95, of East Moline, IL, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, February 6, 2015, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline. Services will be Wednesday, February 11th, at 12 Noon, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a two-hour visitation prior to the services, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Moline, Hope Creek Care Center, or Hospice Compassus. She was born July 7, 1919, in Williamsburg, KS, the daughter of Arthur and Eva (Deputy) Skaggs. She was raised in Rock Island, and graduated from Rock Island High School. On October 24, 1936, she married Archie J. Lea, who passed away December 7, 1965. She married Kenneth D. Griffiths on September 8, 1967. He preceded her in death January 20, 2012. Alice retired from U.S. Government employment (Combat Development Command at Ft. Lee, VA) in 1973. She was a member of First Christian Church in Moline, where she was active in choir, ladies groups, and served several years as financial secretary. She enjoyed sewing (especially for the family, even designing some clothes for special occasions), reading, playing cards, doing crypt-o-quotes, watching any baseball game on television, and traveling. She most of all enjoyed her family, having an “active hand” in not only raising her children and step-children, but helping care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and showering her great-great-grandchildren with hugs and kisses whenever she could get them to hold still long enough. She always had a ready smile and an appropriate quip or quote ready for any situation. Left to honor her memory are her children: Roland “Butch” (Marge) Lea of East Moline, and Sandie (Ed) Cox of Milan, IL; step-children: Richard (Michilene) Griffiths of Ireland, and Gloria Behbodi of California; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert and Warren, husbands Archie and Ken, and stepdaughters Dicksie Brashears and Elizabeth Griffiths.
