Alex S. Pikuza, 78, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, at his home. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the Moline Second Alarmers. Alex was born in Brestlitowsk, Poland on June 14, 1938, the son of Dennis and Sophia (Mazurkiewicz) Pikuza. He graduated with the Moline High School Class of 1956, and attended Northern Illinois University. On January 4, 1958, he married Judith Ann Scott. While at high school, Alex was a talented athlete on the Maroon gridiron, and was a State-qualifying discus thrower. At college, he excelled in track, wrestled as a heavyweight, and played middle linebacker in football. He made All-Conference and received the Chicago Daily News All-State Award. In 1957, Alex had a practice session with the Chicago Bears’ Coach, George Halas. From 1963 until 1965, he played semi-pro football for the Quad Cities Mohawks. Alex was a Moline Fire Fighter from 1960 until his retirement in 1989, and owned his own electrical business, Alex Pikuza & Son Electric. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Christ the King Catholic church. He coached Dad’s Club baseball, and loved fishing and deer hunting with his children and grandchildren. He loved his Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs! Thank you Cubbies for letting him see your championship! He had a hidden kindness and concern for all people. When doing electrical wiring jobs for low-income people, he would most always do extra things for the families at his cost to make their lives better. The Lord implanted goodness in his heart and the Lord’s love for him was expressed through him to all he touched and helped. No man had more love for his family than Alex. In addition to his wife, Judith, survivors include his daughters, Terry (John) Royal of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Tamara (Dan) Mount of Orion, IL, and Rebecca (Dan) Rumler of Moline; his sons, Ed “Butch” (Sheri) Pikuza of Moline, and Alex (Michael Simpson) Pikuza of Santa Fe, NM; seventeen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Tamara Zelnio, and two brothers, Andrew and Igor Pikuza.
