Achiel Vandevoorde

Achiel "Ace" VandeVoorde, 97, of East Moline, IL, passed away Monday, November 23, 2009, at Park View Health Care Center in East Moline. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 24th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Graveside services will be Wednesday, November 25th, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Cemetery in East Moline. Achiel J. VandeVoorde was born in Stekene, Belgium, on July 16, 1912, to Frank and Leontina (Dullart) VandeVoorde. On June 3, 1989, in Davenport, IA, he married E. Joline Dawson, who survives. "Ace" was employed as a Machine Operator at John Deere Plow-Planter Works, for 42 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the East End Bolders Club in Moline, and the John Deere Retirees Club. He enjoyed bowling. Survivors include: his wife, Joline; three stepdaughters: Sheila Crafton of East Moline, Carol Fryxell of Albion, MI, and Donna Leedom of Rock Island, IL; two stepsons: Danny Crafton of Andalusia, IL, and Ralph Crafton of DeKalb, IL; seven grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
